And then, like a mirage in the desert, we spot them – scooters! No, not the classic Vespa kind that oozes Italian charm, but the stand-up variety that screams, “I’m a tourist, and I have no idea what I’m doing!” But hey, when in Rome (literally), right?
So, we hop on these bad boys and set off on a wobbly—and admittedly dangerous—journey through the streets of Italy. Let me tell you, navigating cobblestone roads while trying to maintain your balance on a scooter is no easy feat. But we persevere, because the alternative is turning into human puddles on the sidewalk.
Jubilee? More Like Jubil-HUH?
Amidst our scooter escapades, we kept hearing locals buzzing about this thing called a “Jubilee.” Being the curious cats we are, we decided to investigate. Turns out, it’s not just a catchy Abba song (though we did hum it incessantly while scooting around). No, no, a Jubilee is apparently some sort of grand celebration that happens every so often. In this case, every 25 years. Who knew?
Surviving the Heat, One Scooter Ride at a Time
So, there we were, zipping through the streets on our trusty scooters, Jubilee knowledge in hand, and sweat dripping from places we didn’t even know could sweat. But you know what? It was all worth it. The wind in our hair (okay, more like the wind in our helmets), the sun on our faces (thank goodness for SPF 1000), and the feeling of pure, unadulterated freedom (until we nearly collided with a group of nuns, but that’s a story for another day).
